Community of St Mary the Virgin

Vocation

‘I have called you by name, you are mine’ Isaiah 43:1

Every person is given a vocation in life as a gift from God. As God calls us in love, so we seek to respond to our vocation in love and freedom of heart.

A vocation to the Religious Life is a very particular way of living out our baptismal calling. Through taking of a life vow of poverty, chastity, and obedience we seek to offer ourselves totally and whole heartedly to God. As a Community dedicated to Mary, we seek to live in the spirit of Mary’s words:

‘Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word.’
Luke 1:38

This life-long journey is not undertaken alone but in community with the company and support of others. Our Rule of Life is based upon the Rule of St Augustine whose guiding principles are love and unity - both love of God and of one another. In our community life therefore we seek to live in love and unity with one another, and thus bear witness to the kingdom of God in our lives and in the world.

Discernment of a possible vocation to the Religious Life takes place over a number of years, and there are various stages before a life commitment is made.

If you feel God may be calling you to this way of life and would like to explore further please write to:
